Ms. Ginny Man TheChairmanof Boardof Governors Message from the Chairman of Board of Governors 05 Tung Wah College (TWC) has been providing quality tertiary education since its incorporation by the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) in 2010. Thanks to the continuous contributions from themanagement, sta and all members of the Board of Governors and College Council in the past years and the unceasing support of TWGHs, TWC has built up a niche in healthcare education and taken up an important role in the self-financing tertiary education sector of Hong Kong. The College has made remarkable achievements in training the largest number of nurses in Hong Kong every year and becoming the first and only self-financing institution o ering professionally accredited degrees to train healthcare professionals (namely medical laboratory technologists, occupational therapists and radiation therapists) in Hong Kong. Until now, we have nurtured more than 2,000 graduates to serve the community. On our road to striving for success, we are grateful for the ongoing support of the Government, which fosters the sustainable development of the College. For example, from the academic year 2018/2019, the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions/Sectors (SSSDP) will be regularised with increasing number of subsidised places. Under the new round of SSSDP, the subsidised places o ered by TWC will increase by one and a half folds from 200 since the launch of the Scheme in 2015/2016 to 510 in 2019/2020. All 50 places of the new Physiotherapy degree programme will also be covered under the Scheme. Moreover, since 2017/2018, the Government has provided a non-means-tested annual subsidy for eligible students who are admitted to recognised local self-financing degree programmes. It helps encourage students to enroll in self-financing degree programmes according to their interests and aptitudes. Furthermore, riding on the launch of the Government’s Seventh Matching Grant Scheme for self-financing institutions in 2017/2018 – 2018/2019, TWC has been soliciting more donations from the community for the developments in teaching, research, student support, campus facilities, etc. While TWC and our students have benefited from the Government measures, we should keep enhancing our competitiveness in o ering programmes that nurture talents with keen demand in the community, such as nurses, healthcare professionals and early childhood educators. I sincerely invite you and people from all walks of life to render support to our education service, e.g. via donations, so that TWC can contribute more to society.
