Biography
Professor Lorna Suen is currently the Dean and Professor of the School of Nursing at Tung Wah College.  She has over 25 years of teaching experience as an academic in tertiary institutions in Hong Kong.  Before joining Tung Wah College in 2021, she was the Director of the Squina International Centre for Infection Control and an Associate Professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.  The numerous teaching awards she has received over the years and the consistently positive feedback from her students demonstrate her effectivity as a teacher.  She has also been recognized as one of the ‘Outstanding Alumni Awardees’ of the School of Nursing of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

She has obtained the Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) and has been recognized by Stanford University’s List of the World’s Top 2% of Scientists (since 2020) in both ‘career’ and ‘single year’ records. In addition, she also recently received the ‘Research Excellence Award (2021/2022) granted by the Tung Wah College; and the ‘International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame Award 2023’ granted by the Sigma, USA, which is the highest-level award at Sigma granted to nurses who have significant contributions to nursing research globally.

Professor Suen’s research interests include complementary and alternative medicine (mainly auriculotherapy and auricular diagnosis), and infection control. Her research findings have also had significant societal impacts. She has been invited to serve as consultant to more than 600 staff from over 130 community organizations and facilitate ‘train the trainers’ workshops on auriculotherapy.  Professor Suen has published over 160 scientific articles in international refereed journals, and has ever served as editorial board member of different international refereed journals, such as the ‘American Journal of Infection Control’.  She is frequently invited by different universities and conferences (local, national, and international) as keynote speaker, plenary speaker, a moderator or a guest speaker. She has also served as a Convenor of the East Asian Forum of Nursing Scholars (EAFONS) formed by seven countries, which aims to strengthen and promote high-quality doctoral education for nurses.
