Tung Wah College & UK Canterbury Christ Church University Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Student Projects Online Seminar

On June 12, 2025, at 4:00 PM HK time (9:00 AM UK time), the first joint online seminar for Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy student projects between Tung Wah College (TWC) and Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) was successfully held. Over 50 teachers and students from both institutions participated in this collaborative event.

We were honored to have Professor David Man, Vice President of Tung Wah College, and Ms. Rebecca Sandys, Interim Head of School at CCCU, deliver the opening welcome speeches. The seminar featured presentations from eight student groups, showcasing their projects on rehabilitation, business planning, and product development aimed at enhancing patient quality of life. The topics included: 

  1. An MSK outpatient menopause service for women;
  2. Educational Talks and Health Exercise App (Spinogotchi) to reduce the risk of developing Chronic Low Back Pain among manual workers;
  3. Business Plan for the Cat-fé;
  4. Business Plan for the Playful Progress Company Ltd.;
  5. Prehabilitation for Elective Knee Surgery in East Kent;
  6. Evaluation of Tai Chi Robotic Machine versus Tai Chi Master Training Effects on Improving Balance and Fall Prevention in Older Adults;
  7. PUSH drink station; and
  8. Zoomies - a sports initiative for children with neurodivergence designed by OTs.

The event was chaired by Professor Grace Szeto, Acting Dean of the School of Medical and Health Sciences at TWC; Dr. Calvin Yip, Associate Professor and Programme Leader of Occupational Therapy at TWC; and Dr. Pat Chung, Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy at CCCU.

The seminar concluded with remarks from Professor John Hammond, Professor of Interprofessional Practice at CCCU, who summarized the event. Both institutions expressed their delight at the opportunity for students from different locations to share their academic and field findings in a virtual setting. They look forward to more collaborative activities in the future.
