Clinical practicum
Students are required to fulfil 1480-hour clinical practicum in the Programme that is to fulfil the regulation of Nursing Council of Hong Kong for clinical practicum (1400 hours). The total of clinical hours will be divided into 3 clinical practicums.
Students are required to fulfil 1680-hour clinical practicum in the Programme that is to fulfil the regulation of Nursing Council of Hong Kong for clinical practicum (1600 hours). The additional 80 hours will be required in community and residual care setting in the Programme. The total of clinical hours will be divided into 4 clinical practicums.
Venues of clinical practicum
Students will be assigned to have their clinical practicum in various healthcare settings, mainly in general medical and surgical units as well as various specialties at different hospitals of Hospital Authority of Hong Kong.
Students will be assigned to have their clinical practicum in general medical and surgical units at different hospitals of Hospital Authority of Hong Kong. Students will also have clinical practicum in residential or community settings.
Nursing Professional Licensure
Licensure of Registered Nurse (RN) will be obtained from the Nursing Council of Hong Kong
Licensure of Enrolled Nurse (EN) will be obtained from the Nursing Council of Hong Kong
 
Q2: Will there be any supervision in all clinical practicums?
A2: Yes. Students will be under supervision in all clinical practicums. In the first clinical practicum, students will be supervised by the College academic staff. Therefore, students are able to learn hands-on skills and apply knowledge in the real clinical settings. In the other clinical practicums, students will be supervised by clinical mentors who are experienced registered nurses in the clinical units.
 
Q3: Do I need to work shifts like other nurses in the hospitals?
A3: Yes. According to the requirement of Nursing Council of Hong Kong, students are required to fulfill 1600 hours including 100 hours of night shift in 2-year of study. Students are required to work shifts, am, pm, and Night, based on the operation of the clinical venues.
 
Q4: What are the career prospects after I have completed the Programme?
A4:
  • HDN graduates will be qualified to apply for professional license of EN recognized by the NCHK. They may work in hospital, community and residential care settings of the publicly and privately owned organizations.
  • Qualified ENs can be case managers if they are employed in the elderly care and rehabilitation services.

A5: Our HDN Programme is designed to impart professional nursing knowledge and skills required to nurture students in delivering healthcare service for clients in BOTH hospitals and residential care/community settings. Students have opportunities to practise in various hospitals and residential / community settings.
 
Q6: After I have completed this Programme, is there any opportunities to further my studies?
A6: After you have completed the HDN Programme, you may consider pursuing your further study in the Bachelor of Health Science (Hons) Major in Nursing (senior year entry) for the RN license at our College.
