Tung Wah College (TWC) has been receiving strong support from the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) since its establishment. The TWGHs Board of Directors 2021/2022 has recently donated HK$1.08 million to TWC for the purchase of an “Anatomage Table” and “BodyMap VR Anatomy Learning System” to be used at the Virtual Reality Centre, to further enhance the College’s teaching facilities and learning effectiveness for better development of nursing and allied health programmes.

Amid the current pandemic situation, the Equipment Unveiling Ceremony was held online on 14 March 2022 in recognition of the generous donation made by the TWGHs Board of Directors 2021/2022. The momentous ceremony was attended by honourable guests, namely Mr. Kazaf Tam Chun-kwok, Chairman of TWGHs Board of Directors 2021/2022 and Board of Governors of TWC; Mrs. Viola Chan Man Yee-wai, BBS, Chairman of College Council of TWC; Mr. Albert Su Yau-on, the Chief Executive of TWGHs; Members of TWGHs Board of Directors 2021/2022, Professor Sally Chan, President of TWC and the senior management of TWC. The academic staff of the School of Nursing introduced the equipment and conducted the demonstration during the Event.

Professor Chan remarked, “the College spares no effort in providing high quality tertiary education. In recent years, technology applications such as virtual reality and augmented reality are widely adopted in healthcare education. TWC will continue to incorporate innovative technology in its medical and nursing programmes to increase students’ engagement, motivation and effectiveness in learning. Research will be conducted to evaluate students’ learning outcomes.”

“The College is actively raising support to upgrade our teaching facilities. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the TWGHs Board of Directors 2021/2022 for their continued support to the development of the College and the generous donation of over one million in supporting the purchase of the “Anatomage Table” and “BodyMap VR Anatomy Learning System”. This will help uplift the College’s teaching standards to the next level.”

Mr. Kazaf Tam Chun-kwok, Chairman of TWGHs Board of Directors 2021/2022 expected that the donation will help TWC students to enhance their learning interests and better utilise the leading-edge technology in their studies as well as nurture more medical and nursing professionals to meet the challenges that come our way.

In the past 11 years, TWC has nurtured more than 3,800 graduates and played a significant role in training health care professionals. With the rapid development of medical technology, virtual reality equipment is pivotal in teaching for nursing and allied health. The College has set up a Virtual Reality Centre on the 9/F of the Ma Kam Chan Memorial Building, King's Park Campus. Equipped with the two brand-new virtual reality instruments donated by TWGHs Board of Directors 2021/2022, students are allowed to familiarise themselves with the application of advanced medical equipment and systems which enriches their learning efficiency and experience.
