Learning and Teaching Seminars (LTS)

In-house Learning and Teaching Seminars are open to all academic staff (full-time and part-time) and/or academic support staff. There are no stipulation on the number of hours academic staff were required to complete. CITL maintains an attendance record of the seminars and could provide individual staff with the relevant record on a need basis.

Fellowship Writing Workshop

  • Head of Academic Development at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and Advance HE accreditor


Background of Advance HE:

There are now over 210,000 Advance HE Fellows across more than 110 countries. Institutions adopting the Fellowship have reported improved student satisfaction, recruitment, and retention, with several (e.g. Srinakharinwirot University, Abu Dhabi University, and Applied Science University) gaining recognition in QS World Rankings. Multiple studies highlight its benefits, including increased teaching self-efficacy among academics (Greer, Cathcart & Swalwell, 2021) and higher student engagement scores linked to more HEA Fellows (Zaitseva, 2015).

The CITL will hold a two-day workshop to support Fellowship applications.Webinar Content:

To provide an overview of the Professional Standards Framework (PSF), the application process and the evidence of effective practice required to meet Descriptor 2 (Fellow) or Descriptor 3 (Senior Fellow) criteria

Abstract:

This seminar focuses on effective pedagogy and assessment for achieving postgraduate learning outcomes. It defines postgraduate learning outcomes aligned with competency levels under the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework, and compares core differences in teaching and assessment between undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. It further analyses divergences in background, learning needs and approaches between undergraduate and postgraduate students. Addressing constructive alignment of learning outcomes, pedagogy and assessment, it explores research-centred teaching approaches unique to postgraduate education, and proposes strategies to enhance teaching and assessment effectiveness.

Professor Vivian Lee is currently Associate Professor of the Center for Learning Enhancement And Research (CLEAR) at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Professor Lee received her Bachelor of Sciences degree in Biochemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in the School of Pharmacy, University of Southern California (USC). She is a certified Specialist by the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties (US) in Pharmacotherapy and added qualification in cardiology pharmacotherapy. She is also the fellow of the Hong Kong College of Pharmacy Practice and the senior fellow of the United Kingdom Higher Education Academy.

GenAI for learning: Considerations in assessment design, academic integrity, and language learning support

Speaker:

Dr Julia CHEN is the Director of the Educational Development Centre at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She is recently appointed as the Chair of the Hong Kong Teaching Excellence Alliance initiated by the HK University Grants Committee. A Principal Fellow of Advance HE (PFHEA), her research interests include leveraging technology in education, using learning analytics for quality enhancement, and English Across the Curriculum. She leads several large-scale multi-university projects, including one on GenAI. Julia has won numerous awards: the HK University Grants Committee Teaching Award 2022 (team leader), QS Reimagine Education Awards 2022 Breakthrough Technology Innovation in Education Silver Prize, EdTech Heroes Learning Experience Award 2023, Paper Award in Learning Analytics 2022, and twice her university’s President’s Award for Excellent Performance in teaching and service respectively. She has also been honoured with the lifetime designation of Distinguished Fellow by the Association for Writing Across the Curriculum in the USA.
