Programme Description

The programme is characterised by a strong emphasis on applied research. In contrast to many traditional nursing PhD programmes that may prioritise theoretical research, our programme is designed to tackle real-world healthcare challenges by integrating research with practice. This applied research approach allows students to generate new knowledge while also translating their findings into practical solutions that improve patient outcomes and healthcare systems.

The aim of the PhD(N) programme is to equip students with advanced knowledge through research in a specialist field. The objectives of the programme are as follows:

  1. To develop students' ability to conduct independent and rigorous research in nursing, focusing on generating new knowledge and contributing to evidence-based practice;

  2. To enhance students' research skills, including critical analysis, methodological proficiency, and the ability to effectively communicate research findings within academic and professional settings;

  3. To equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to address ethical considerations in nursing research, ensuring responsible conduct and adherence to ethical guidelines; and

  4. To prepare students to engage in academic and professional discussions in their research area, fostering leadership potential within the research community.

Programme Features
The curriculum emphasises key areas such as healthcare innovation, interprofessional education, and leadership, equipping graduates to tackle contemporary challenges in the healthcare sector. Supported by the School of Nursing with expertise in applied research, students gain the skills and knowledge necessary to drive advancements in nursing practice, education, and policy. This practical orientation provides our graduates with a comparative advantage, making them highly valued in both academic and clinical settings.
