Tung Wah College’s School of Medical and Health Sciences: Strengthening Interdisciplinary Collaboration to Train Well-Rounded Allied Health Elites
06/05/2026

Following last week’s episode of Commercial Radio 1’s programme Tung Wah College’s New Chapter, which featured Professor Rick Kwan, Associate Vice-President (Academic) cum Associate Dean (Programmes) of the School of Nursing, and Professor Lorna Suen, Dean of the School of Nursing, providing an in-depth look at the School of Nursing’s teaching strengths and future vision, this week’s programme features Professor Christopher Lai, Dean of the School of Medical and Health Sciences cum Programme Leader of Medical Imaging, and Professor Grace Szeto, Programme Leader of Physiotherapy. They highlighted the distinctive strengths of the School of Medical and Health Sciences (hereafter referred to as “the School”), as well as its guiding educational philosophy: “Expert-led, people-focused.”

During the interview, the Professors outlined how the School fosters interdisciplinary collaboration by embedding clinical learning within placements and organising visits to hospitals and rehabilitation centres. This pedagogical approach ensures students cultivating an 'interprofessional care' mindset throughout their academic journey. Furthermore, by actively participating in diverse community services, the School translates medical education into tangible social impact—bolstering students' practical competencies and nurturing compassionate allied health professionals defined by a strong humanistic spirit.

The discussion also covered the School’s future vision, including integrating artificial intelligence into teaching and research, and further strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration. This will ensure that students are well-placed to respond to emerging trends in the health and medical industries.
