Tung Wah College held the opening ceremony on 4 June for the Smart Health Applied Research Centre (SHARE) at the King’s Park Campus. Sponsored by South China Vocational Education Group, SHARE will conduct pioneering applied research in smart health technologies, including AI, IoT, and data analytics, to discover new ways to diagnose, treat, manage, and prevent diseases.

Professor Sally Chan, President of TWC and Co-director of SHARE, highlighted in her welcoming remarks, “TWC hopes the research findings of SHARE can directly address societal needs by fostering knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary collaboration among local and international experts. The centre will strengthen industry-academia-research partnerships, bring smart health innovations into the community, and deliver tangible benefits to citizens.”

SHARE has already planned several pioneering projects, including using AI Chatbot and AI-enhanced image diet recognition system to support elderly with subjective cognitive decline in establishing healthy living habits; exploring the application of immersive virtual reality (IVR) in elderly care homes; and developing digital Traditional Chinese Medicine and telecare platforms to support healthy ageing.

TWC expects SHARE to accelerate the translation of innovative ideas and research into practical applications, support the integration of smart health technologies within healthcare systems, and promote commercialisation and clinical adoption, ultimately improving the health and wellbeing of people in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.
