OT International cultural exchange and study tour to Sydney 2024
18/07/2024

Thirteen OT students of Year 3 and Year 4 and two academic staff joined an International cultural exchange and study tour to Sydney from 18th July to 29th July 2024, which was organized in collaboration with the Western Sydney University (WSU). The tour had the opportunity to visit campus facilities, attend lectures and interact with OT students and academic staff of WSU.

A variety of clinical visits to hospitals, community and private settings were also arranged.

Nepean Hospital had arranged attachments for our students in the Rehab Unit, Cancer Care and Wellness Centre and Mental Health Unit. These exposures enriched students’ scope of OT roles in different specialties. In the Penrith Community Health Centre, students could observe OTs working with children and families in early intervention services.

A visit to Sargood on Collaroy was an eye-opening experience as our students could investigate the roles of OT in accommodation and leisure support for clients with Spinal Cord Injury.

For the area of Elderly Healthcare, a visit to the Huang Ying Jung Nursing Home (founded under the Australian Nursing Home Foundation) for Chinese elderlies was arranged. Students had the opportunity to run a session of group activities and interact with the elderlies there.

Visiting organizations sent us very encouraging feedbacks after the visits and they were very impressed by the performance of our students for being professional, initiative, engaging, confident and cheerful. All participants found this tour inspiring to their professional development and bring to them a memorable and valuable learning experience filled with fun and enjoyment.
