Tung Wah College Awards Over Six Hundred Graduates at its 11th Graduation Ceremony
28/11/2023

Tung Wah College (TWC) awarded 664 graduates either a Bachelor Degree or Higher Diploma in various disciplines at its 11th Graduation Ceremony held at the MacPherson Stadium on 28 November 2023. The Ceremony was officiated by Mr. Wai Ho Man Herman, Chairman of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) Board of Directors 2023/2024 cum Board of Governors of TWC.

Speaking at the Ceremony, the Guest of Honour, Dr. Pang Fei Chau, Commissioner for Primary Healthcare of the Health Bureau, emphasised the importance of primary health care professionals in addressing growing public health care issues like mental health and chronic diseases. He also called on the healthcare graduates to pursue careers in primary health care to raise the overall level of community health. Lastly, Dr. Pang envisaged engagement and collaboration with TWC and the graduates to shape a more comprehensive and accessible primary health care system.

Professor Sally Chan, President of TWC, remarked on the imperative for graduates from different disciplines to take action in addressing crucial public health concerns in our society. She encouraged the graduates to leverage their expertise and experience in driving interdisciplinary solutions for today’s complex public health issues, while fostering collaboration and innovation with members from different backgrounds. She also reminded the graduates not to “underestimate the profound impacts you can achieve – not only on yourselves, but also on thousands of individuals, your profession, and the well-being of our society.”

At the Ceremony, two graduates were invited to share their learning experience at TWC. Ms. Lee Man Ting, graduate of Higher Diploma in Nursing, recalled her experience of serving in the Kai Tak Cruise Isolation Facility and participating in the door-to-door vaccination programme. She believed these experiences were invaluable lessons to offer frontline support in combating the pandemic.

Ms. Charis Tam, graduate representative of the first cohort of the Bachelor of Management (Honours) in Social and Business Sustainability, expressed her appreciation to the teachers for building her awareness of the needs and challenges in our society. She strongly believed that, “What we have learnt and experienced in college will inspire and motivate us to contribute to society’s progress and the well-being of others.”
