Opening Ceremony of Tung Wah College Tsim Sha Tsui Campus Nurturing talent in Arts, Humanities and Management
21/10/2024

Tung Wah College (TWC) held the Opening Ceremony of its Tsim Sha Tsui Campus today, together with the Open Day for the Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association. The officiating guests included Mr. Kasper Ng Siu Kei, Principal Assistant Secretary (Further Education) of the Education Bureau; Ms. Mandy Tang Ming Wai, Chairman of TWGHs Board of Directors 2024/2025 cum Chairman of Board of Governors of TWC; Mr. York Tseng Hing Yip, Chairman of College Council of TWC; Mr. So Chung Ping, MH, Chairman of The Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association; and Professor Sally Chan, President of TWC.

Tung Wah College is committed to meeting society's demand for talent by offering a diverse range of programmes. The campuses in Ho Man Tin, Mong Kok, and Kwai Hing can no longer accommodate the College's rapid growth in both programmes scopes and student numbers. To provide a better learning environment, the new Tsim Sha Tsui Campus has been established in the Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association Building to serve students enrolled in the School of Arts and Humanities and School of Management. The new campus spans more than 17,300 square feet across four floors, featuring nine classrooms and four professional laboratories covering various disciplines, including a Digital Health Lab, an Early Childhood Play and Learning Laboratory, and two Applied Psychology Laboratory. All facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art teaching resources to enhance the student learning experience.

In his address at the ceremony, Mr. Kasper Ng Siu Kei said, The opening of the new campus marks a new chapter in Tung Wah College’s development. It not only provides students with a better learning environment but also lays the foundation for the College's continued expansion beyond healthcare programmes.

He also expressed appreciation for the self-financing post-secondary education sector, including Tung Wah College, for actively supporting government policy directions, developing their distinct niche areas, and leveraging the flexibility of the self-financing sector to offer more applied programmes. This provides young people with diverse, flexible, and high-quality pathways for further education.

On the same occasion, Ms. Mandy Tang Ming Wai, Chairman of Board of Governors of TWC, remarked, Tung Wah College has steadily progressed and is now approaching its fourteenth year. With the unwavering support of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, past and present Boards of Governors, the College Council, and our partners, we have fully realised the mission of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals to promote education and nurture talent, upholding the philosophy of inclusive education and playing an increasingly important role in Hong Kong's self-financing post-secondary education sector.

She also noted that in recent years, the College's Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Gerontology and Bachelor of Health Information and Services Management (Honours) have been included in the government's Pilot Project on the Development of Applied Degree Programmes. This demonstrates that while consolidating its foundation in healthcare education, the College is also maturing in other disciplines, gaining widespread recognition and support.

In her speech, Professor Sally Chan, the President of TWC, highlighted that the number of new students in the School of Arts and Humanities and the School of Management has more than doubled compared to last year. The new campus will provide students with more space for classes and activities, further reflecting the College's commitment to improving campus facilities and offering a higher-quality learning environment.

Professor Chan also expressed her sincere gratitude to the Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association for its strong support of the College's development. During the preparation of the new campus, the Association actively collaborated with the College, providing substantial support throughout its development journey. She hopes that through the connections with the Association and the community, the College can create more opportunities for academics and students to serve the community, nurturing socially responsible and caring citizens.

Mr. So Chung Ping, MH, Chairman of The Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association, stated, “The Tsim Sha Tsui campus of Tung Wah College is fully equipped, providing an ideal learning environment for students and offering high quality programmes to cultivate caring and community-oriented students dedicated to serving society. I believe that in the future, Tung Wah College and the Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association will work hand in hand to nurture more young talent and advance the development of Hong Kong.”
