Tung Wah College Awards Over Eight Hundred Graduates at its 12th Graduation Ceremony
21/11/2024

Tung Wah College (TWC) held its 12th Graduation Ceremony at the MacPherson Stadium yesterday (21 November 2024). 844 graduates were conferred with academic awards ranging from Bachelor Degree to Higher Diploma, Diploma and Certificate in various disciplines. The Ceremony was officiated by Ms. Mandy Tang Ming Wai, Chairman of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) Board of Directors 2024/2025 cum Board of Governors of TWC.

Speaking at the Ceremony, the Guest of Honour, Ms. Li Mei Sheung, Michelle, JP, Permanent Secretary for Education of Education Bureau, highlighted TWC as a shining example among the self-financing institutions, which complement the publicly-funded sector by providing flexible pathways for young people and responding quickly to meet the ever-changing manpower needs of Hong Kong. Ms. Li commended the College as a staunch partner of the Government in promoting vocational and professional education and training (VPET) and expressed her pleasure in welcoming the College as one of the founding associate members of the newly launched Alliance of Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS).

Lastly, Ms. Li also reminded the graduates of important recipes for success using the “ABCD” framework, which includes Attitude, Balance, Communication and Collaboration, and Discipline and Determination. She urged graduates to always carry the flame of hope within them and to harness their power to live life to its fullest, regardless of the adversities and vulnerabilities they may face.

Professor Sally Chan, President of TWC, emphasised the College's commitment to nurturing socially responsible and caring professionals eager to embrace lifelong learning and serve the community. She reminded graduates, “The skills you’ve acquired and the knowledge you’ve gained are the tools you'll carry with you into the world. However, your passionate heart and willingness to serve the community will truly define your success.” She encouraged graduates to be dreamers and doers, to stay curious, to keep learning, and to embrace every opportunity for growth.

At the Ceremony, two graduates were invited to share their learning experience at TWC. Ms. Lee Wai Yee Sarah, a graduate of the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Radiation Therapy, originally a surveyor, decided four years ago to change her career path and pursue a future in the healthcare profession due to personal interest and long-term development. Sarah noted that the Radiation Therapy programme is comprehensive, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills, and she is glad to have made the right choice in studying at TWC. She hopes to apply what she has learned to make a positive and meaningful influence on patients’ lives as a radiation therapist.

Ms. Chan Hui Ching Godiva, a graduate of the Bachelor of Social Science (Honours) in Applied Psychology, shared her journey of transferring from occupational therapy to applied psychology. She recalled losing confidence and motivation in her studies two years ago when she decided to quit her study in occupational therapy due to unsatisfactory performance in her clinical placement. Encouraged by a counsellor from the Student Affairs Office, she regained belief in her ability to continue her study. Godiva described this as a “life-changing” decision, expressing that studying psychology has allowed her to better understand herself. Her internship experience has boosted her confidence and provided clearer direction for her future career development. She also expressed gratitude to the College's teachers for their dedicated guidance and her family for their unwavering support, which helped her regain confidence and passion for learning.
