Since its establishment, Tung Wah College (TWC) has received continued support from the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) to improve its teaching facilities and quality. This year, the College received a generous donation of more than HK$1.6 million from the TWGHs Board of Directors 2024/2025 for the setup of a Technology-enhanced Geriatric Learning Centre at the King’s Park Campus and a Digital Health Laboratory at the Tsim Sha Tsui Campus. These facilities will broaden nursing students’ exposure to the application of gerontechnology devices and will equip students in the Health Information and Services Management programme with digital health technology and data analytics skills.
An Equipment Unveiling Ceremony was held on 24 February 2025 at the King’s Park Campus and Tsim Sha Tsui Campus, in recognition of the generous donation made by the TWGHs Board of Directors 2024/2025. The momentous ceremony was attended by honourable guests, namely Ms. Mandy Tang Ming Wai, Chairman of TWGHs Board of Directors 2024/2025 cum Board of Governors of TWC; Mr. York Tseng Hing Yip, Chairman of College Council of TWC; Members of TWGHs Board of Directors 2024/2025; Mr. Albert Su Yau On, Chief Executive of TWGHs; Professor Sally Chan, President of TWC, and TWC management team. At the Ceremony, briefing sessions and demonstrations on the use and purposes of the devices were conducted by academic staff from the Nursing and Health Information and Services Management programmes.
Professor Chan expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the staunch support of the TWGHs, noting, “In the era of AI, we must stay ahead of technological developments to train versatile healthcare professionals. While a heart to serve is of utmost importance as always, a digital mindset is equally instrumental. Thanks to the generosity of the TWGHs Board of Directors 2024/2025, we can enhance the use of technology in healthcare education and develop students’ data analytics skills to improve healthcare efficiency. With a recognised strength in healthcare education, TWC is committed to innovating our teaching to nurture well-rounded healthcare professionals who can address the evolving needs of our aging population.”
The newly established Technology-enhanced Geriatric Learning Centre boasts a Gamified Cognitive Training System that is installed with NeuroGym (gamified training modules tailored for the elderly) and GOPod (activity-based cognitive training). It also features Bone Density Scanners and Models, as well as InnoSpire Smart Glasses and InnoVoice Smart Glasses that support communication and learning for visually impaired and hearing impaired individuals respectively. These additions are intended to step up the use of technology in the teaching and learning of geriatric care, ultimately empowering students to leverage these innovations effectively in their future roles within the industry.
The Digital Health Laboratory offers a comprehensive scope of hardware and software to provide students with hands-on experience with the latest digital health technology and data analytics skills. Powered by Mac devices, the Lab supports various digital health and smart health workshops to enhance student learning. With digital health competencies and data analytics skills, students are well-prepared to contribute to better patient care and streamlined health care processes when they embark on their careers in the industry.
Over the past fifteen years, TWC has nurtured over 5,800 graduates, particularly in the cultivation of healthcare professionals, demonstrating the College’s contribution and influence in healthcare education. With the rapid development of modern healthcare technology, the College will continue to actively invest in and equip students with new healthcare technologies, cultivating more healthcare talents in response to society’s demand for high-quality healthcare services.
