Tung Wah College Officially Opens in September: Offers Four-year BBA (Honours) Programme
09/06/2011

Additional programmes are planned in future as a response to Hong Kong's emerging problem of an ageing population coupled with a severe shortage of nurses and health professionals. In view of this imbalance between supply and demand for health services, TWC intends to offer nursing programmes at both bachelor degree and higher diploma levels and other healthcarerelated programmes to address the rising demand.
TWC will offer scholarships and bursaries in partnership with a number of affiliated industrial and social welfare organisations to attract high-quality students.
The TWC ideologies are as follows:
1. Nurturing by masters to raise interest in learning and thinking through interactive discussions between professors and students;
2. Outcome-based learning that enables students to master learning targets easily by clear curriculum settings;
3. Supports interdisciplinary studies to broaden students' knowledge through cross-disciplinary courses;
4. Promotes learning without walls by making use of the internet on and off campus;
5. Expands students' real life experience by deploying them to work in companies of their choice during their undergraduate study to gain work experience and raise professional competitiveness;
6. Supports education funds and scholarships to attract high-quality students.
The BBA (honours) programme offers three majors - Accounting, Finance and Marketing. The programme will incorporate the management principles of non-profit organisations so students can be educated and trained to apply knowledge and skills to the operation and management of profit-making as well as non-profit entities.
The programme requires students to complete 120 credits for graduation.
Under the co-operative educational approach,all the four-year bachelor degree students will be arranged to work in companies of their choice for one year during their undergraduate study (or 6 months if they enrol in a sub-degree programme) so as to gain work experience, learn on the job as well as get valuable guidance from their supervisors at work and professors.
"This approach is strongly supported by parents and our industry partners as it provides the best of both worlds for students, allowing them to dabble with the stress and pressure of the real world while at the same time they are still semi-protected under the guidance of their teachers. This kind of experience can help students build self-confidence, interpersonal skills, teamwork and communication skills and enhance their problem-solving ability so that they can better equip themselves for future challenges," says TWC President, Professor Thomas Wong.
Through a Co-operative Education Programme, the College has gathered more than 100 industry partners who are willing to provide work opportunities and internship programmes for our undergraduates.
TWC also advocates small-class teaching to encourage direct communication and frequent interaction between professors and students.
We fully support learning without walls and boundaries by promoting the full use of the internet, Wi-Fi and other advanced electronic technologies to encourage learning outside the conventional classroom setting.
This innovative approach will see the setting up of community learning centres and laboratories in Hung Hom and Yau Ma Tei to facilitate the principle of "learning anywhere and anytime". This will also help facilitate and support our community services.
TWC will accept online applications starting from June 15. The student intake for the first-year BBA degree programme is set at 200, while for third-year students, who already have an associate degree qualification or equivalent, the intake is 55.
