Tung Wah College (TWC) hosted the Positive Technology International Conference 2023 from 27 to 30 June 2023. On the theme of “Positive Technology: Possible Synergies between Emerging Technologies and Positive Psychology”, this Conference attracted nearly 1,800 onsite and online participants from 34 countries. 6 renowned scholars from Italy, Spain, Germany, Great Britain, and United States delivered 6 keynote sessions and 6 keynote workshops and 16 parallel sessions of paper presentations and discussions with 90 local and overseas researchers, to explore and discuss how technology could be appropriately employed to bring about positive consequences of promoting mental health, identifying and applying personal strengths, enhancing resilience and human wellbeing.
Professor Sally Chan, President of TWC, delivered the welcoming speech at the Conference on 27 June, she mentioned that this was the first international conference that the College organised after the COVID-19 pandemic. She expressed special thanks to Professor Giuseppe Riva from Catholic University of Milan who came to Hong Kong from Italy attending this Conference face to face and was grateful for the support from the local and international co-organisers, including The Hong Kong Shue Yan University, The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and The University of New Mexico. Professor Alex Chan, Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities of TWC and Chairman of the Organising Committee of this Conference, in his opening speech said that the pandemic may continue to impact our mental health in the post-pandemic era. The insights shared by the speakers on Positive Technology would inspire us to make the best uses of emerging technologies, such as virtual reality and augmented reality, big data and artificial intelligence (AI) on enhancing emotional quality, engagement and interpersonal experiences so as to promote mental health of the community.
