Dr. George Lau Hing Keung joined TWC in September 2024. Dr. Lau is a versatile professional executive with a wealth of experience in senior management roles within tertiary education institutions.

Dr. Lau’s academic journey began with a BEng degree from Newcastle upon Tyne Polytechnic, United Kingdom, in 1990. He continued his education, earning an MPhil degree from Hong Kong Polytechnic in 1993 and a PhD from The University of Hong Kong in 1998, both focusing on wireless and satellite communications. Starting his career as a Lecturer at the Open University of Hong Kong in 1998, he steadily advanced through various positions, ultimately reaching roles such as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Head of Science by 2018. From October 2018 to August 2024, he held the position of Assistant Executive Director at VTC, fulfilling various roles such as Vice Principal of IVE (Tsing Yi), Principal of IVE (Tuen Mun), Principal of Youth College (Kwai Chung & Pokfulam), and Head of the Corporate Environmental Office.

Dr. Lau is actively engaged with professional bodies and governmental organisations. Notably, he chaired the IEEE Hong Kong Section in 2016 and chaired the Product Safety Engineering Chapter within the same section in 2012 and 2013. In 2017/18, he assumed the chairmanship of the IET-HK Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering Section. From 2018 to 2025, he has been a Member of the Panel on Manpower Development of the Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification. Additionally, from 2021 to 2025, Dr. Lau has served as a member of the Curriculum Development Council Committee on Technology Education of the Education Bureau. With a rich portfolio of over 60 published technical articles, his research primarily focuses on wireless and satellite communications, smart manufacturing, quality assurance, and product safety.

Armed with his extensive expertise, Dr. Lau will collaborate closely with the President to steer TWC towards its vision of establishing itself as a distinguished Hong Kong private university with a global perspective.
