He has over 15 years of teaching experience as an academic in both UGC and self-financing tertiary institutions in Hong Kong. He also serves as Associate Editor of BMC Infectious Diseases, Handling Editor of Frontiers in Public Health, Review Editor of Frontiers in Medicine, Editorial Broad Member of Korean Journal of Adult Nursing, Reviewer for many international journals (e.g., The BMJ, JAMA Network Open, BMC Medicine, and Environmental Science and Technology Letters). Before joining Tung Wah College in 2021, Professor Lam was the Deputy Director of the Squina International Centre for Infection Control, and Assistant Professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He left the Hong Kong Metropolitan University (formerly Open University of Hong Kong) in 2018 as the position of Associate Professor.Professor Lam has published over 70 refereed articles and 90 conference proceedings on the field of infection control, psychometric testing and elderly care. He developed the Compliance with Standard Precautions Scale (CSPS) for measuring compliance with infection control practice among nursing in clinical settings. This scale has been translated into more than nine languages and adopted for the use in over 26 countries. Furthermore, he coordinated a multi-country comparative study of compliance with infection control practice among nursing staff from nine regions. For his expertise in mask and N95 respirators, he developed the first local Particle Filtration Efficiency (PFE) system for screening the quality of filtrating materials, like face masks, which the result of quality of 160 different brands of face mask have been published in American Journal of Infection Control. Since 2011, he has published several impactful researches on N95 respirators among healthcare workers in clinical setting. Recently, he has invented new N95 respirators (with filed Patent) as alternatives with better fit to Chinese healthcare workers.Academic and Professional QualificationsBN, MSc, PhD, RN, FHKAN, FAANAuthor IdentificationsORCID: 0000-0002-2982-9192Scopus ID: 35173272300Web of Science Researcher ID: H-7361-2019EducationDoctor of Philosophy, The Nethersole School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong)Master of Science in Clinical Gerontology, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong)Bachelor of Nursing, The Nethersole School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong)Honours and AwardsFellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) (since October, 2022)PCT Patent filed “Respirator with Adjustable Straps” filed with the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), (PCT Application No.: PCT/CN2021/099388) (10 June, 2021)The 2nd place of the Most Outstanding Award, “Special Recognition Award 2020 for COVID-19 pandemic”, The Hong Kong Academy of Nursing (23 May, 2021)2021 Emerging Nurse Researcher/Scholar Honorees, award for the Asia Region (one awardee from each of Sigma’s seven global regions: Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America/Caribbean, Middle East, North America, and Oceania), Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) https://www.sigmanursing.org/connect-engage/meetings-events/congress-2021/awards/emerging-nurse-researcher-awards (17 February, 2021)Short-term Patent filed of “Respirator with Adjustable Straps” in a utility and design model, (Filer’s Reference No.: HK32020021992.3) [EFILEH-SFHC.FID720945], Patents Registry, Intellectual Property Department, The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (11 December, 2020)Faculty Award/ Prizes for Outstanding Achievement, Category: Faculty Award in Services (Team member), Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (2019 - 2020)Faculty Award/ Prizes for Outstanding Achievement, Category: Faculty Award in in Research and Scholarly Activities (Team member), Faculty of Applied Science and Textiles, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (2019 - 2020)Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Nursing, FHKAN (Education and Research), (Registration No.: F04014919) (May, 2019 - Present)Teaching AreasResearch project supervisionResearch methodsHealth management and economicsResearch InterestsInfection control practiceInstrument development, adaptation and validationCaring for older peopleFunded Projects (Selected)Evaluation of N95 respirators on fit rate, real-time leakage and usability among Chinese healthcare workers.
