What will I learn in a psychology programme?
A1:
Psychology is the scientific study of human mental processes and behaviour. The discipline embraces all aspects of the human experience — from the functions of the brain, to the actions of different people in our society; from child development, to the care of our elderly. Through the study of psychology, students would work to understand the above complicated human mental processes and experiences. Throughout the above learning processes, students will enhance their understanding of self and others; polish their communication, problem solving, critical thinking and analytical abilities; and develop their conflict resolution skills.

Is this programme accredited by the government and professionally recognized?
A2:
The Bachelor of Social Science (Honours) in Applied Psychology is already accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic & Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ). Graduates of this programme are also eligible to apply for membership in the Hong Kong Psychological Society (HKPS), Hong Kong Professional Counselling Association (HKPCA), British Psychological Society (BPS) and Australian Psychological Society (APS). (Membership applications are assessed on an individual basis for the societies above.)

What is the career prospect for this programme?

Psychology graduates are highly sought by employers in many sectors such as social work and services, public relations and communications, politics, personnel, advertising, management and retail, as well as teaching and research settings.Graduates may also choose to further their studies in clinical, counselling, educational or organisational psychology or a professional in other specialized fields of psychology.

What are the special features of TWC’s Bachelor of Social Science (Honours) in Applied Psychology Programme compared with other similar psychology programmes?

The programme design and learning outcomes are based on the requirements of local and overseas professional psychological societies and associations such as Hong Kong Psychological Society (HKPS) and American Psychological Association (APA). Besides, the Bachelor of Social Science programme with major in Applied Psychology has its own dedicated research and teaching laboratories which are equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities such as Electroencephalography (EEG) Machines and other experimental and psychometric tools. We emphasize on equipping graduates with knowledge, skills and values that are essential with the application of psychological knowledge in various types of settings.
