Biography
I am Professor of Higher Education Research at Kingston University, UK and Visiting Professor at Kristianstad University, Sweden. I am Co-Director of the Centre of Applied Health and Social Care Research and Founding Director of the Healthcare Educational Research and Evaluation (HERE) research group. I also serve as an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Multiple Research Approaches. I have a PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Minnesota, USA. My research interests include higher education, healthcare education, professional development and well-being of healthcare professionals, and evaluation of healthcare interventions. I have secured several research grants and published over 50 articles in research journals. I have also presented my research at various national and international conferences. I have received several awards for my research excellence, such as the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Outstanding PhD Dissertation award, the Research Excellence Award at the University of Minnesota and the Kingston University Recognition of Achievement Award. As the School of Nursing Director of Research from 2016 to 2021, I developed and implemented a strategy to enhance the research culture, and increase research capacity, income and productivity. I teach research methods and use adult learning theories in my teaching approaches. I am currently supervising 8 PhD students and have successfully supervised 4 PhD students to completion. I am a reviewer for several research journals and conferences, such as BERA, AERA, and HKAECT. I am also a member of the Kingston University Peer Review College. I have lived, studied and worked in three countries (Belgium, USA, England) and I am fluent in three languages (English, Dutch, French).
