Referencing & CitationFor further assistance on research or use of library resources, please feel free to contact our staff at the Circulation Counter or email us at lb@twc.edu.hk or whatsapp us at 5575-1564.IntroductionWhat is Referencing?Referencing refers the academic practice of acknowledging all the information sources (books, journal articles, images, data, webpages, etc.) that you have included in your scholarly or academic writing. By providing accurate referencing, you give credit and at the same time allow your reader to locate the original source. Additionally, it can help you to avoid unintentional plagiarism.In-text Citations & Reference ListAll proper referencing includes two parts: in-text citations and a detailed reference list. An in-text citation is used within the text of your writing to acknowledge the sources of your information. It gives brief details of the source you are using or referring to, such as the author’s surname and year of publication, while the full details of the source are listed alphabetically by authors’ surname at the end of your paper in the reference list.Note: There are different citation styles for citing sources, and each has its own rules. APA style may be one of the most common citation styles used at TWC. However, different schools, programmes or lecturers may have their own requirements. If you are unsure which referencing style you are required to use, please consult your course coordinator.Quick startSearch the TWC Search to locate library materials.Manuals / HandbooksFeatured Printed Publication ManualTitleCall NumberA pocket style manualConcise guide of APA styleMLA handbook for writers of research papersPublication manual of the American Psychological Association : the official guide to APA styleBooksFeatured Printed BooksTitleCall NumberAPA : the easy way!Avoiding plagiarism : write better papers in APA, Chicago, and Harvard citation styleCite them right : the essential referencing guideCite right : a quick guide to citation styles--MLA, APA, Chicago, the sciences, professions, and moreThe complete guide to referencing and avoiding plagiarismDoing honest work in college : how to prepare citations, avoid plagiarism, and achieve real academic successThe everyday writer with exercisesA guide to MLA documentation : with an appendix on APA styleHow to cite, reference & avoid plagiarism at universityMLA rules for format & documentationPublication manual of the American Psychological Association : the official guide to APA styleRules for writersE-Books*Tip: To find more e-books, search the TWC Search.
